From assembly line to full-time mom, Lisa Wallarab is fueled by Death Wish
No matter if Lisa Wallarab is up at 3 a.m. to get ready for her job at Sears Manufacturing or keeping up with her 5-year-old daughter, Layla, a cup of Death Wish Coffee is always by her side.Â
Without our supportive community, Death Wish Coffee wouldn't be where it is today. That's why we want to highlight our community and introduce you to the people who sip Death Wish Coffee all day long.Â
Learn more about Lisa and what fuels her below.Â
How'd you first hear about Death Wish Coffee?Â
I first heard about Death Wish Coffee when the segment aired on ABC News on March 21, 2013. As an assembly line employee with a new baby girl at home and daddy on opposite shift, I couldn’t be more excited to try this new brew! As soon as Layla turned a year old that June and I had completed the goal of nursing her for her first year, I brought on that first order of Death Wish Coffee the very next month! I was hooked from the very first sip. It was dark, rich, and smooth with almost a cherry flavor. It was my special treat. I’ve never looked back.Â
How you brewin'?
My first brew of Death Wish Coffee came from a refillable pod used in my Keurig machine. I would pack them tight trying to achieve the strongest brew possible for the day. Knowing my passion for a better brew, my darling husband Shane gifted me the Ninja Coffee Bar for Christmas 2016. Let’s just say that the Keurig lives elsewhere now. It’s absolute bliss getting up for work at 5 a.m. every morning and having that perfectly strong cup waiting for a dash of Stevia and a splash of creamer, and we’re out to cause some mayhem and sass.Â
What's your day-to-day like?Â
My days begin at 5 a.m. — 3 a.m. if my assembly line is on overtime. I always start my day fueled by Death Wish Coffee! I get to make the beautiful drive over the bridge crossing the mighty Mississippi River, which can be quite stunning on the occasional sunrise. In the winter, the bald eagles are numerous here and occasionally dip through the bridges. I spend my day at Sears Manufacturing, and as a proud Local UAW 1896 Union assemblyman, I assist in the construction of industrial seating equipment for various forms of farm, construction, trucking, etc. Chances are some of you out there might be riding around on a quality piece of Sears Seating equipment right now.
Once I punch out, the real work begins. Nothing is more important than family. My sons, Chris and Ryan (26 and 24), are amazing young men and out doing the adult responsible things that make a mother proud. Shane and I are absolutely blessed with our spunky little 5-year-old, Layla, who is already intelligent beyond her years. Layla and I take pride in helping out with charities and fundraising when we’re not doing crafts, baking, planting flowers, or just lounging in the pool. I have to have my Death Wish Coffee to be able to keep up with her!
What's something that people don't know about you?
I was raised by my great grandparents. They were both gone by the time I was 16 years old. I learned very early on in life how to be self sufficient, resilient, work hard for what you want and never give up. You don’t have to have the best of everything, make the best of what you have. Life is like a cup of coffee, it can be as weak or as strong as you choose to make it!
What do you love most about the Death Wish Coffee Community?Â
I have been a member of the Death Wish Coffee Community since around March 2016. I had been drinking the coffee for years before so when I found the group it was like coming home to family. I make the birthday memes for the dates I’m knowledgeable of in hopes of brightening people’s day. I love to make people smile! The friendships I’ve made within this community are worth more than their weight in gold, some have become more like family members.
Most of my mug collection is thanks to help from my dearest friends here. Caffeine and kindness can never be underestimated! Layla and I have taken great pride in helping with Death Wish Coffee Community fund raising projects such as the Operation Sandbox coffee donation drive for troops deployed. We held a week-long bake sale to raise funds for the Death Wish Coffee-sponsored rUNDEAD zombie-themed 5K for the New York Chapter of the Special Olympics, baking different goodies every single day. This Community is capable of amazing things, all brought together through the love of Death Wish Coffee! Mugs up, and stay caffeinated!
