Meet one of Death Wish Coffee's biggest supporters, Gail Dunmyer
No matter if Gail Dunmyer is kayaking, scuba diving, skiing, or collecting mugs, she relies on a strong cup of brew to get her through the day.
Without our dedicated, caffeinated and growing community, Death Wish Coffee wouldn't be where it is today. That's why we want to introduce you to some of our community members and tell you about how they learned about Death Wish, how they take their coffee, and what they like to do in their free time.
Learn more about Gail below.
How did you first learn about Death Wish Coffee Company?
Several years ago I was looking online for a strong coffee to use for migraines, not wanting to use caffeine pills. I remember searching for “strong coffee” and up popped Death Wish Coffee! I couldn’t believe my luck that not only did it cure my headaches, but that I couldn’t drink any other coffee after that! It was the smoothest coffee I had ever tasted and has become my first choice every morning since. I can rely on Death Wish Coffee and Valhalla Java to fuel my busy schedule!
What's your favorite mug?
That’s a really hard question to answer. With mugs made by family operated Deneen Pottery, and creative Death Wish logos, how do you pick just one? Many of them have stories behind them and I appreciate them all. But I think my favorite mug would have to be a mug that stands for the company that Death Wish Coffee represents. A company that not only roasts exceptional coffee, is a leader in great customer service, contributes to coffee communities, small businesses, charities, organizations, but also constantly rewards its customers.
None of this could be possible without founder and owner, Michael Brown. To this day I thank this man for sharing his world and broadening mine. In 2015, fans of Death Wish Coffee, along with music supporters and communities worldwide, helped vote Death Wish Coffee in Intuit’s Big Game Competition. In February 2016, after the airing of the Super Bowl 50 commercial, a custom-made and engraved Death Wish Coffee Deneen mug showed up at my door. It was a beautiful surprise and very special gift from Mike Brown, to not only myself but to several other fans who supported Death Wish during the competition. I dub this glorious mug my “Beast” because it can hold 24 ounces of black gold, Death Wish Coffee. I must say, that is my favorite mug!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time? What is that! I feel that to be truly happy is to give as much as you can to others. My husband, Brian, and I are active in many charities. For several years we belonged to an organization, Fishing with Warriors, which takes traumatically injured active servicemen and women, not yet released from their medical battalions, and gives them an all-expense-paid, 6-day therapeutic program of fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. To be a part of a program that benefits the healing and survival of an injured warrior is very rewarding and a great honor. Also, on May 19, I fly on my sixth annual flight to D.C. with Honor Flight Tallahassee. I will be a guardian and accompany a WWII or Korean veteran to visit the WWII Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and other surrounding memorials in DC. I come back a changed individual each time.
I have many hobbies, pets, and interests, but nothing is better than sitting on my Florida front porch with a cup of Death Wish Coffee, or caring for my four beehives. But that’s another story…
What's your favorite of the Death Wish Coffee Community?
So many fans and people with different backgrounds, cultures, and coffee communities are able to come together with a common spirit. In the community, you can find coffee brewing methods, mug shots, coffee recipes, birthdays and Death Wish Coffee drives to our troops, just to name a few. Many of us have bonded and made life-long friendships. Who could have predicted that a coffee company could inspire a community in such a way?
How do you brew your coffee?
I have tried many different methods of brewing coffee. But I must say that freshly ground, pour-over Chemex the best tasting for me!
